ABOUT US

Founded in 1994 by Margaret Browning Kufferman, BROWNING RESIDENTIAL DESIGN is located in downtown Westport, Connecticut.

With an extensive body of work comprised of both new houses designed from scratch as well as transformative additions, Margaret also has extensive experience in the design of custom interior millwork and custom kitchen design. These combined skills enable her to, if the client desires, take an entire house design project from concept to completion, down to the last millwork detail throughout the home.

Margaret considers exterior proportion and detail of paramount importance when designing a home, and is extremely adept at keeping these concepts at the forefront while at the same time producing well organized, well-proportioned interior spaces that meet her clients' needs and desires--even when space is at a premium.  She also believes that a house's spirit shapes the lives of those who live in it; therefore ample light, visual interest, and varied atmospheres are what she strives to create in each of her unique projects.

Margaret holds both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design.  She served for 11 years as a Commissioner on the Historic District Commission for the Town of Fairfield, serving the Southport, Greenfield Hill, and Old Post Road historic districts. She is a winner of multiple architectural design awards, and is an avid lover of all old houses and structures with spirit, decrepit or otherwise.
